30 May 2014

In a special insert dedicated to pharmaceuticals published by Puls Biznes an article, titled Badają i rozwijają (Researching and developing), describes the R&D activities of Polish companies. The material also includes input from industry experts one of them being Krzysztof Kurowski, Director of Operations and R&D at the Adamed Group.

Krzysztof Kurowski described projects focusing on innovative therapies being conducted at the Adamed Group. “Initially our R&D work concentrated on conducting research of molecules already known and produced based on another method of synthesis or formulation. However, in recent years our research and development department has been working on discovering innovative molecules in two therapeutic groups – oncology and diseases of the central nervous system.” He then continued to talk about rising significance of biosimilar drugs. According to him, biosimilar drugs are becoming more important, which is resulting in declining number of new molecule registrations and the so-called patent cliff resulting in expiration of patent protection of the biggest blockbusters (original drugs).
