Spanish expansion

Adamed has acquired the Sanofi plant in Catalonia, launching a new stage of development in Spain

Adamed Pharma has finalized the acquisition of the Sanofi manufacturing plant in Riells i Viabrea, Catalonia. As of July 1st, the factory formally belongs to the Polish pharmaceutical and biotechnology company. This acquisition strengthens Adamed's position in Spain and supports the company's further international expansion.

Riells is Adamed's first production plant in Western Europe. The factory has been operating for 50 years, employs over 200 people, and produces approximately 75 million packs of medicines annually, which are distributed to 77 countries worldwide.

In the coming years, Adamed will carry out a series of investments at the plant to enable the localization of Adamed medicine production there, and will also work on developing team competencies.

The role of the Riells factory in Adamed’s international strategy

The Riells plant will play a key role in Adamed’s international manufacturing network as a hub for producing high volumes of medicines destined for dozens of markets worldwide.

The factory in Catalonia will complement the company’s current manufacturing capabilities. The plants in Poland, located in Pabianice and Ksawerów, are responsible for diversified medicine production, while the plant in Vietnam specializes in smaller batches and "high potent" products. Producing large volumes in Riells will allow the Polish company to better respond to the needs of multiple markets simultaneously.

Thanks to the Riells factory, Adamed will significantly double its production capacity to nearly 10 billion tablets per year. The investment will allow the company to diversify its manufacturing locations, enhance supply chain resilience, and strengthen drug security in Europe.

Continuity of production and supply for patients

Adamed will gradually introduce its own products to the factory while continuing to cooperate with other pharmaceutical companies, including Sanofi. This solution will ensure the continuity of drug supply to patients and the operational stability of the plant.
In the following years, Adamed plans to invest in the modernization of the factory, including the machinery park, logistics infrastructure, IT systems, and environmental protection. A detailed investment plan will be prepared following the completion of an in-depth operational analysis of the plant.

Spain – one of Adamed’s key markets

Adamed has been present in Spain since 2009 through its subsidiary Adamed Laboratorios. Spain is one of the most important markets for Adamed’s medicines.
